Nigerian Army Destroys 15 Refineries, Recovers 115,000 Litres of Stolen Crude, Arrests 10 Suspects

Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, have achieved significant successes in ongoing anti-illegal bunkering operations. Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement.

Recently, troops deactivated over 15 illegal refining sites, arrested 10 suspects, dismantled 30 cooking pots, intercepted 11 vehicles and boats, and confiscated 115,000 liters of stolen products. Additional recoveries include ancillary items used for economic sabotage.

In Rivers State, troops intercepted a truck loaded with 40,000 liters of stolen crude near SIAT Farm, Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area. At Sankri, Okrika LGA, three illegal refining sites were deactivated, and 26,500 liters of stolen products recovered.

Similar operations in Degema LGA yielded the deactivation of four illegal refining sites, recovery of 10,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil, and 6,000 liters of stolen crude. Troops also destroyed illegal refining sites, makeshift structures, and recovered 15,000 liters of stolen crude around Okoloma, Obuzor, and Ukwa Creeks.

Additionally, pipeline vandalism sites were discovered, and suspects arrested in Akuku-Toru and Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema LGAs. In Bayelsa State, troops deactivated illegal refining sites, recovering 2,800 and 2,500 liters of stolen products in Nembe and Southern Ijaw LGAs, respectively.

In Delta State, a trailer siphoning crude from Nigerian Petrolatum Development Company’s oil pipeline was intercepted, and two persons arrested. Other vehicles loaded with stolen products were intercepted in Ika South and Orhiomwon LGAs.

In Akwa Ibom, troops intercepted three drums of premium motor spirit prepared for smuggling to a neighboring country. Vigilance is maintained to deny economic saboteurs freedom of action.

These successes demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating economic sabotage and ensuring national security.
