President Bola Tinubu will not attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly, instead focusing on Nigeria’s pressing domestic issues, particularly the aftermath of recent devastating flooding. Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead the country’s delegation.
“The President, who returned from his trip to China and the United Kingdom last Sunday, wants to address some of the country’s challenges,” explained Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President.
At the UNGA, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and engage in crucial bilateral meetings. The high-level General Debate, themed “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity,” takes place from September 24-28.
“President Tinubu is committed to tackling these domestic concerns head-on,” Onanuga added. “Vice President Shettima’s leadership ensures Nigeria’s interests are well-represented on the global stage.”
