Edo Group Condemns Obaseki’s ‘Do or Die’ Statement, Accuses PDP of Undermining Democracy

The Edo South Patriotic Forum (ESPF), a prominent advocacy group, has strongly condemned Governor Godwin Obaseki’s recent “do or die” statement regarding the upcoming Edo gubernatorial election. Obaseki made the provocative remark at a PDP mega rally, sparking widespread criticism.

According to ESPF President, Chief Emmanuel Aigbe, “Governor Obaseki’s words are more than just inflammatory—they are a call to arms that could destabilize our community and incite violence.” Aigbe emphasized the severe consequences of such reckless statements, noting that they undermine the democratic process and threaten the peace and security of the state.

The ESPF identified three dire consequences of Obaseki’s rhetoric:

1. Escalation of Violence: The language could embolden extremist factions, leading to increased political violence and putting innocent lives at risk.

1. Intimidation of Voters: The threat of violence could intimidate voters, disenfranchising them and undermining the fairness of the election.

1. Disruption of Peace: Reckless rhetoric could fuel tensions and unrest, disrupting daily life and destabilizing the state’s socio-political environment.

Furthermore, the ESPF expressed concern that the PDP’s endorsement of Obaseki’s rhetoric may be an attempt to cripple the state’s democratic processes. This strategy aims to create chaos and manipulate the electoral outcome through fear and intimidation rather than legitimate means.

In response, the ESPF urges all stakeholders to denounce such dangerous rhetoric and work towards a peaceful and fair electoral process. Chief Aigbe reiterated the group’s commitment to promoting peace and ensuring the rights of every Edo citizen are protected during this critical election period.

The ESPF’s stance is clear: inflammatory rhetoric has no place in Edo State’s democratic process. By condemning Obaseki’s statement, the group seeks to promote a safe and secure environment for citizens to exercise their right to vote.

As the election approaches, the ESPF’s call to action serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible leadership and peaceful political discourse. The group remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare and stability of Edo State.
