In a significant political development, four Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to Governor Godwin Obaseki have resigned from their positions and defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) due to unresolved grievances. Osayande Emenya, SSA from Ward 06 in Oredo Local Government Area and PDP’s Organizing Secretary, tendered his resignation, citing non-payment of salaries since his appointment. He criticized the party’s leadership, saying, “the principles of equity, fairness, and justice have disappeared” within the PDP, which has neglected its loyal members.
Timothy Edokpolo, SSA from Ward 08 in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, also quit, attributing his decision to the internal crisis plaguing the PDP. He lamented the leadership’s disregard for democratic principles and neglect of youths, which has alienated many supporters.
Ukato Osaheni Henry, Financial Secretary of Oredo PDP Ward 06 and SSA to Governor Obaseki, and Efosa Edo-Osagie Jr., SSA from Ward 06 in Oredo PDP, also resigned, citing non-payment of their SSA salaries as the primary reason. Their defection to the APC comes ahead of the Edo gubernatorial polls, dealing a blow to the PDP. The resignations highlight the internal turmoil within the PDP, which may impact its chances in the upcoming elections.
