Fresh attacks on Tuesday night in the Daffo and Kwatas communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State have claimed at least seven lives, according to sources. The attacks, which occurred around 7 p.m., were carried out by suspected Fulani-speaking terrorists, targeting ethnic minorities in the area.
The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) confirmed the incident, stating that the area has been under persistent attacks since May 2024, resulting in over 30 killings and 1,000 farm destructions. The group’s chairman, Farmasum Fuddang, expressed deep sadness and feeling of betrayal by those responsible for their protection.
The latest attack brings the total number of deaths in the area to 26, following a week of isolated attacks. The incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Nigerian military’s peace agreements in the region.
Major Samson Zhakom, Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, said he was awaiting details of the incident before commenting.
