The National Economic Council (NEC) has issued a directive mandating four states to submit their reports on the establishment of state police by Monday, September 9. Any decisions made thereafter will be binding on these states, NEC warned.
This directive was issued during a NEC meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. The reports are crucial due to ongoing security challenges across the country, according to Bayo Lawal, the acting governor of Oyo State.
NEC had initially requested state submissions last year to address security concerns, but four states failed to meet the recent submission deadline. Lawal emphasized that these states must submit their reports by the set deadline, or else they will be bound by any subsequent decisions made on the establishment of state police.
