Toronto Police Arrest Woman for Suspected Hate-Motivated Threats Against Yoruba’s and Edo’s

The Toronto Police Service has arrested a 46-year-old woman, Amaka Sonnberger, for allegedly posting online threats against specific members of the Nigerian community. According to the police, the accused posted the threatening content on August 25, 2024, and was arrested on September 1, 2024.

“It is alleged that the accused posted online content… threatening death to specific members of the Nigerian community,” the police stated.

Sonnberger has been charged with Uttering Threats and is scheduled to appear in court on September 2, 2024. The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.

“When suspected hate-motivated offences are reported to police, the investigation could be led by a Divisional investigator with the support of the Hate Crime Unit (HCU), or in some cases, will be investigated exclusively by the HCU,” the police explained.
