Seven Polish citizens, including students and a teacher from the University of Warsaw, have been released by Nigerian authorities after their arrest in Kano during the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, announced their release on Wednesday, stating that the group is now free and back on campus with their passports.
The Polish authorities had previously expressed concern over the arrest, clarifying that the individuals were innocent bystanders who found themselves “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Sikorski confirmed that the released nationals will soon return to Poland, joking that they received an “accelerated lesson in African studies” during their brief detention.
