Justice Kelvin Mbanongon has remanded former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Chairman, Chief Isaac Mffo, and erstwhile State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, at the Makurdi Correctional Centre.
The two PDP chieftains were found culpable of alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, cyber crimes, and defamation of characters against Prof. Nicholas Ada, High Chief Terngu Tsegba, and former Benue Assembly Speaker Terseer Tsumba.
The prosecution alleged that Mffo and Iortyom had made false claims that the trio had sponsored thugs to disrupt Ward Congresses, caused breach of peace within the PDP, and embezzled funds meant for elections in Benue State in 2023.
The defence counsel, Barr. A.U. Gar, requested bail on self-recognition, but the prosecution counsel, C.N. Agudu, objected, citing the gravity of the accusations.
Justice Mbanongon concurred, ordering the accused to be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre while investigations continue. The case has been adjourned to October 15, 2024, for further mention.
