The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the abduction of Aribibia Fubara, a director at the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service, by gunmen.
According to the Rivers Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the command is aware of the incident and has taken immediate action. “The Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of all tactical units and alerted all area commanders to ensure he is rescued unhurt,” she said.
The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police has also ordered the apprehension of the suspects and ensured they face the law.
Eyewitnesses reported that the abduction occurred when six gunmen arrived at the Marine Base axis of Port Harcourt in a speedboat, coming from the Okirika Waterfront. They shot indiscriminately into the air, identified their target, and whisked him away in their boat.
As of Monday, the abductors had not made any contact with Fubara’s family. The police are working to rescue the director and bring the perpetrators to justice.
