A devastating incident has occurred in Jigawa State’s Guri Local Government Area, where a 40-year-old woman tragically set herself on fire following her divorce. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the heart-wrenching event in a statement.
The woman, a resident of Garin Mallam village, allegedly used petrol to inflict the fatal flames on herself. The police responded promptly, rushing to the scene and verifying the incident. The charred remains were taken to the hospital and later released to the family for burial.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased had been struggling with depression since her divorce a few months prior. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, offered words of wisdom, urging individuals to seek solace in their faith and guidance from elders during challenging times to prevent such tragic events.
