PDP SENDS HIGH-POWERED DELEGATION TO RIVERS STATE TO HALT GOVERNOR FUBARA’S DEFECTION

In a bid to prevent a potential crisis, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a high-powered delegation to meet with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, amidst speculation of his defection to another party.

The delegation, led by the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, includes former Chairman Ahmed Makarfi, elder statesman Olabode George, and Senator Abdul Ningi. They arrived in Port Harcourt on Tuesday to persuade Governor Fubara to remain in the PDP.

Governor Fubara, who has been silent on his next move, expressed doubts about his membership in the PDP but acknowledged that the visit by the BoT had reassured him of his recognition as a party member.

The BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, revealed that the party was desperate to prevent losing Rivers State to the APC, citing the strong opposition presence in the state. He emphasized the importance of retaining Rivers State, stating that losing it would be detrimental to the party’s future.

Wabara commended Governor Fubara for his resilience and wisdom, assuring him that the BoT would address the matter constitutionally. The meeting is seen as a significant effort by the PDP to retain one of its strongest strongholds in the country.

The outcome of this meeting will be closely watched by political analysts and Nigerians at large, as it may have far-reaching implications for the party’s future in Rivers State.
