On the tenth and final day of the anti-government protests, demonstrators in Abuja successfully evaded a heavy police presence to gather at two alternative venues, Apo and Lokogoma districts. Despite the initial plan to march at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, protesters adjusted their route due to the significant police and military deployment.
Starting as early as 7 am, the determined crowd, armed with placards and chants of “End hunger” and “Reverse fuel subsidy removal,” made their voices heard. This culmination of the protests, which began on August 1, was marked by a renewed sense of purpose, following earlier disruptions by hijacking hoodlums who engaged in looting, destruction, and violence in various Northern states.
Notably, the protesters distanced themselves from the violent elements, who had also brandished foreign flags and called for regime change, a stance widely condemned by Nigerians, the armed forces, and the protest organizers themselves.
