The gubernatorial candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo state, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, has unveiled plans to improve Benin City as a Smart City. The initiative aims to promote and provide core infrastructure to give a decent quality of life to all Edolites, create a clean and sustainable environment, and implement “Smart” solutions.
Dr. Aikoriogie’s plan includes the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) for a smart sustainable city, setting city goals, data collection, and measuring progress in various areas such as robust IT connectivity and digitalization, physical infrastructure, social inclusion and equity of access to services, quality of life for residents, cyber security, public engagement, efficient and modern transportation systems (land, water, and air), housing opportunities for all, sanitation and solid waste management, constant and steady electricity supply, a confident and progressive city plan, assurance of a living wage for civil servants, addressing environmental issues like climate change, and ensuring good governance.
The goal of this initiative is to transform Benin City into a model Smart City that offers a high standard of living, sustainable development, and efficient services to its residents. Dr. Aikoriogie’s vision for Benin City is one of progress, innovation, and inclusivity, aiming to enhance the overall quality of life for all those who call the city home.
