The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a petition challenging the nomination of Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie as the National Rescue Movement’s (NRM) candidate for the 2024 Edo governorship election.
The case was instituted by Cosmos Odion Irabor challenging the authenticity of the primaries that produced Dr. Aikoriogie.
Justice Nwite of Court 9 ruled that the primary election that elected Dr. Aikoriogie as the NRM candidate was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution.
This judgment resolves the leadership tussle within the party, which led to Dr. Aikoriogie’s exclusion from the list of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). With this ruling, the way is now clear for Dr. Aikoriogie’s inclusion on the ballot for the upcoming election.
The court’s decision affirms Dr. Aikoriogie’s status as the lawful candidate of the NRM, paving the way for his participation in the 2024 Edo governorship election.
