NSCDC Officer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping 13-Year-Old Girl

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Olukayode Dayo, a 39-year-old Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, to life imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl on December 25, 2021.

The victim, who lived with her grandmother, alleged that Dayo dragged her to an uncompleted building and raped her despite her cries for help.

A passerby who heard her screams chased Dayo away, and the victim was later taken to her grandmother.

The prosecutor, Mr. Julius Ajibare, presented six witnesses and exhibits, including the defendant’s statement, photographs, and a medical report.

Dayo denied the allegations but pleaded for mercy.

Justice Lekan Olatawura delivered the judgment, stating, “The victim consistently and unequivocally identified the defendant as her attacker.”

The judge found Dayo guilty, saying, “The prosecutor proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant raped the minor.” The sentence was life imprisonment.

In her statement, the victim recounted, “I was sent to bring banana and kolanut. On my way, one man called OluKay (the defendant) crossed me with his motorcycle, dropped the items on my head, and dragged me to a fenced uncompleted building.”

She added, “He removed my pants and started having sex with me. It was when a passerby heard my voice that OluKay took to his heels.”

The judge’s verdict was clear: “In all, I find him guilty as charged. Consequent upon the foregoing, the defendant is sentenced to life imprisonment.”
