The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has announced significant seizures of contrabands and revenue generation between April and June 2024. The command intercepted contrabands with a duty paid value of N770,666,237, including cannabis sativa, live ammunition, Premium Motor Spirit, foreign-used tyres, used clothes, frozen poultry products, and foreign parboiled rice.
The command also generated N92,369,227 in revenue, representing a 52.46% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The revenue surpasses the monthly target by 77.86% in June 2024.
Comptroller James Ojo attributed the success to the agency’s relentless fight against smuggling and determination to protect the local economy, public health, and safety. He emphasized the harmful effects of the seized contrabands, including cannabis sativa, expired tyres, and smuggled poultry products, on national security and public health.
