Tragedy struck in Gboko, Benue State, as two teenagers lost their lives in separate drowning incidents.
12-year-old Kumater Kachii on June 22 drowned in a dam at Mkar Hills while swimming with his siblings after fetching firewood.
His body was recovered with the help of farmers and youths and buried in his hometown, Kunav.
Another teenager, 13-year-old Aondosoo Ansambe, met a similar fate on June 23 while swimming in the Kontien stream with friends.
His body was recovered by Akaajime youths and passersby and handed over to his family.
The incidents have raised concerns among stakeholders, who are calling for investigations into the frequent drowning cases in the area.
They urge parents and residents to warn their children against swimming and unnecessary social outings.
The victims’ families and community mourn the loss of two young lives.
