Hundreds of students from various higher institutions in Ode Irele, Irele Local Government Area, staged a protest on Monday, demanding the safe return of their missing colleague, Gideon Akindoye. Akindoye, a 300-level student of Computer Engineering at Al-Hilmah University in Kwara State, went missing on June 11, 2024, while visiting his father’s farm in the area.
The students, under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), marched through the streets, carrying placards and singing solidarity songs, urging the state government and security agencies to intervene and find Akindoye.
The Senate President of NANS, Comrade Henry Olukunomo, confirmed that Akindoye was a bonafide student and called on his abductors to release him dead or alive. The students’ protest highlights the growing concern over the safety of students in the region.
