Brig. Gen. Harold Udokwere (retd.), the national chairman of the Retired Members of Nigerian Armed Forces, has been killed by a three-man armed robbery gang.
The attack occurred at his Kubusa home in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday morning, according to News360 Nigeria. Abiodun Durowaiye-Herbert, Chairman of the Board of Trustee, REMNAF, stated in a telephone interview:
“They came around 3am… He was such a gentleman and he doesn’t talk much. They took everything and they still killed him. I don’t know why people are like that.”
Air Commodore S.A Zakari (retd), National Assembly Sergeant-At-Arm, confirmed the death in a statement, quoting the late general’s wife, who said the robbers requested her jewellery and took his husband’s pistol, and she heard gunshots afterwards.
The statement read, “Brig. Gen. H Udokwere (retd.)… was attacked early morning at home in Abuja… The wife said three suspected armed robbers attacked the General’s house… She also said that was the third time they were attacked.”
The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered the arrest of the armed robbers and an immediate investigation into the attack and death.
