The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized the intervention of Federal security agencies in the ongoing Kano Emirate stool as a ‘show of shame’. In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ladipo Johnson on Saturday, the NNPP described the actions as part of a larger scheme by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to seize control of the state.
The party expressed its concern over the ongoing siege on Kano State, particularly at the Palace of the Emir of Kano, by soldiers and security agents. The NNPP stated that such actions are undermining the democratic process and threatening the progress made in Nigeria’s democracy.
The NNPP also criticized the Federal Government’s decision to deploy security personnel to facilitate the return of the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, calling it a threat to national security and democracy itself.
The party emphasized that the governor of Kano State, Engr Kabir Yusuf, acted within the bounds of the law by removing the former Emir and reinstating Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II. According to the NNPP, the Kano State Legislature, which has the authority to make and amend laws, repealed the Kano Emirate Law (2019) and reinstated Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
The NNPP’s statement underscores the party’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting democratic principles in Nigeria. The party called for a cessation of the Federal government’s intervention in Kano State and urged all parties involved to respect the decisions made by the state legislature.
Overall, the NNPP’s strong stance against the intervention in the Kano Emirate stool highlights the growing concerns over the erosion of democratic values and the rule of law in Nigeria.
