Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigeria Labour Congress President, Joe Ajaero, to put aside their differences and work together for the greater good.
Abure’s plea came during his first press conference since the April 3 fire incident at his Abuja residence.
The two leaders have been at odds over the congress’s attempts to take control of the party structure, with allegations of financial malfeasance and a “one-man show” leadership style.
Abure described Ajaero as a “friend and brother” with whom he has fought for workers’ welfare over the years.
He urged Ajaero to set aside his grievances, saying: “Consequently, I want to appeal first to my brother, friend and Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC… to put aside whatever may be his grievances. Let’s work in the interest of our people.”
Abure emphasized that fighting the Labour Party is “uncalled for and unwarranted” when workers are suffering, and instead, they should team up to fight for better working conditions.
He added: “We need not waste or dissipate our collective energies in fighting ourselves over nothing.
The NLC should know by now that the attempt being made to take over the party leadership will not work. It is my appeal that working together is better.”
