Tragedy struck in Shaapera community, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, as terrorists killed Mike Ode, a commander of the Agro Ranger unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to Nicholas Ode, the deceased’s brother, Mike was on a special assignment in Shaapera village when he and his team encountered the herdsmen. During the ensuing gun battle, the NSCDC officers successfully neutralized 10 of the bandits, but unfortunately, Mike was fatally shot.
The NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, Mike Ejelikwu, confirmed the incident, praising the bravery of the Agro Rangers and assuring that the command will continue to perform its constitutional mandate of providing security for all law-abiding citizens in the state.
Ejelikwu noted that the Agro Rangers squad was established to provide security for agro-allied investments, including animal husbandry and crop production, across various local government areas in Benue State. He also confirmed that the command is in touch with the deceased’s family.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Benue State and the sacrifices made by security personnel in the fight against terrorism and banditry. May the soul of Commander Mike Ode rest in peace.
