Tragedy has struck the Nigerian football community with the sudden passing of former Nigerian international soccer star, Ibrahim Babangida.
A standout player in Nigeria’s Under 17 team at the 1993 FIFA World Cup in Japan, Ibrahim lost his life in a devastating car accident on the Kaduna-Zaria Road today.
His elder brother, Tijani Babangida, a former Nigerian international and current President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), survived the crash without injuries, while his wife sustained injuries.
Throughout his career, Ibrahim Babangida achieved numerous accolades, including playing for NUB FC Kaduna and Stationery Stores FC of Lagos, also known as the Flaming Flamingoes.
He also represented Nigeria in both the Under 17 and Under 20 age grade competitions.
According to reports, his family will announce funeral arrangements in the near future.
