The South-South Zonal Office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) recently conducted an enforcement operation in supermarkets in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Bags of rice suspected to be re-bagged or underweight were confiscated for further investigation.
In a post on its social media handle, the FCCPC stated, “FCCPC’s South-South Zonal Office conducted a routine enforcement operation in some supermarkets in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, targeting underweight and re-bagged rice. Products that were suspected to be substandard were evacuated for further investigation.”
This comes after a recent campaign by the FCCPC to enforce price display and quantity compliance at supermarkets in Abuja. The agency is responding to consumer concerns about the rising costs of goods, which do not align with the recent strengthening of the naira.
The FCCPC is urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any unfair trade practices they encounter. It is dedicated to protecting consumers and ensuring fair competition in the marketplace.
