Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the Edo State Gubernatorial Candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has promised the people of the state 24-hour electricity if elected.
Aikoriogie made the promise during a media chat with media personality Mega Comrade.
The NRM candidate opines that the provision of uninterrupted power supply will boost the industrialization of the state.
He affirmed that since he plans to transition Edo State from a civil service state to an industrialized one, the provision of stable power supply is paramount.
Regarding how he intends to achieve the provision of 24-hour electricity, he said:
“Providing 24-hour electricity is not rocket science. Edo State is one of those states with huge deposits of gas, much of which is being flared into the atmosphere.”
“Edo State ranks among the top states in Nigeria in terms of gas reserves, and we know that gas is a major component required to generate electricity.”
“What we are going to do is establish public-private partnerships to attract foreign investors to build the necessary plants that will utilize these gas reserves to generate electricity.”
“This approach has already been implemented in places like the Ologbo axis, where companies like Michelin and Okomu have had 24-hour electricity using gas reserves.”
Furthermore, he said:
“Nigeria is a country blessed with solar energy radiation. We can establish numerous solar farms and distribute solar panels to generate electricity. Additionally, we can utilize wind energy resources to ensure continuous power supply.”
He emphasized that although achieving this goal is feasible and not rocket science, it requires building upon the existing infrastructure in Edo State.
