Six members of the Labour Party in the Enugu State House of Assembly have switched allegiance to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmakers attributed their decision to defect to the PDP to the persistent internal divisions and crises within the Labour Party, both at the national level and within state chapters.
They specifically pointed to the ongoing leadership struggle between the factions led by Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa, as well as disputes involving the national treasurer, as key factors contributing to their departure.
The six Assembly members who have joined the PDP are:
1. Ejike Ezeh representing Igbo-Eze North 1 constituency
2. Mr. Johnson Ugwu representing Enugu North constituency
3. Princess Ugwu representing Enugu South Rural constituency
4. Mr. Pius Onyeka Ezugwu representing Nsukka East constituency
5. Mr. Williams T. Amuka representing Igbo-Etiti East constituency
6. Mr. Osita Eze representing Oji River constituency
The announcement of their defection was made on Thursday in Enugu, with the Speaker, Chief Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, reading their letter of declaration during the Assembly’s plenary session at the Legislative Complex.
