Imo State Police Command has confirmed that gunmen killed two police officers in Okigwe Council Area. The officers were attached to Mopol 18, Owerri.
The gunmen, allegedly members of the Eastern Security Network, an armed affiliate of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), threw dynamites at the officers while on security patrol.
Four other policemen survived the attack. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemned the attack and urged the general public to report any information to assist the command in the investigation.
He assured residents that police will continue to protect them and advised them to support the police and other security agencies in the fight against violent crimes in the state.
