A member of the Senate’s Appropriation Committee, Jimoh Ibrahim has advocated for the prosecution of Bauchi Senator Abdul Ningi.
The call for legal action comes in the wake of Senator Ningi’s about-face on his earlier statements regarding the 2024 Appropriation Act.
Ningi had ealier accused President Bola Tinubu of implementing two budgets and displaying favoritism against the North.
But he later recanted, saying he was wrongly quoted.
Ningi had said:
“With the press release I saw in the media yesterday, I am taken aback.
“At no time did I say Bola Tinubu is implementing two budgets. There was no time. At no time did I say Bola Tinubu was biased against the north.
“At no time did I say Bola Tinubu is implementing N25 trillion budget. There is no way I will talk about N25 trillion and N28 trillion,’’ he said.
In response, Senator Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, refutes Ningi’s allegations, asserting that the claim of two Appropriation Acts in the country is baseless.
The plea for legal intervention is rooted in the charges of criminal misinformation and breach of peace within the National Assembly and, by extension, the entire nation.
He said;
“As a matter of urgency, charge Senator Ningi for criminal misinformation, and conduct likely to breach the peace of the country.
“If the Senate will not do that within the next seven days, I will write a letter to the Inspector General of Police to investigate the circumstance leading to the approval of two 2024 Appropriation Acts and bring the culprits to book.
“It is not true that we have two Appropriations. Senator Ningi must be charged to court for conduct likely to cause breach of peace and criminal misinformation.”
