Rivers Crisis: NLC Talks Tough on Workers’ Welfare

In a worsening political feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning, vowing to pursue legal action over the ongoing crisis. The NLC argues that the escalating conflict is significantly impacting the welfare of workers in the region.

The political standoff between Governor Fubara and Wike has been a cause for concern, as it continues to disrupt normal governance in Rivers State. Both parties have been engaging in a war of words and legal battles, further exacerbating the crisis in the state.

The NLC, the umbrella organization representing workers’ interests, expressed their deep concern for the well-being of employees whose welfare has been neglected due to the prolonged power struggle. The Congress has highlighted that the ongoing conflict has led to a decline in workers’ salaries, irregular payment of pensions, and a general lack of job security.

Speaking on behalf of the NLC, National President Ayuba Wabba emphasized the urgent need for both political leaders to set aside their differences and focus on addressing the welfare of workers, who are ultimately the backbone of the state’s economy.

Wabba stressed that the NLC would not hesitate to explore legal options to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and demands. The organization has vowed to mobilize its vast network of union members to rally behind the affected workers, advocating for their rights to be upheld amidst the ongoing political crisis.

Governor Fubara and Wike must prioritize the greater good of the state and its citizens, especially the workforce upon whom the state’s progress depends. The NLC insists that the conflict should not overshadow the well-being of workers, who face mounting challenges due to the current impasse.

Ultimately, all parties involved must put aside personal grievances and find a common ground that will benefit the people of Rivers State. The NLC remains committed to monitoring the situation closely, with an unwavering focus on protecting workers’ interests and ensuring their welfare is not compromised during these challenging times.
