By Christian Asema

KADUNA, December 15, 2023 – In an unprecedented display of solidarity and collaboration, the Northern Governors of Nigeria convened yesterday for their first meeting at the Northern States Governors’ Forum. Led by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, the governors came together to address the pressing regional challenges, particularly the alarming rise in insecurity.

The meeting, held at the Council Chamber, Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, served as a platform for the Northern Governors to strategize and find solutions to combat the various developmental challenges plaguing the region. The focus was on fostering unity and leveraging technological advancements as proactive measures to tackle the escalating security threats in the North.

To demonstrate their commitment, the Northern Governors wasted no time in extending aid to the victims affected by the recent Tudun Biri Community Drone Misfire incident in Kaduna State. A tragic incident that claimed several lives and caused significant damage, the drone misfire drew the attention of the Northern Governors, who immediately visited the victims and presented them with a cheque amounting to N180 million.

During the visit to the victims at the Accident & Emergency Unit, Governor Yahaya, chairman of the Forum, reaffirmed the urgent need for a unified approach to addressing the security challenges in the region. He stressed the importance of unity and the utilization of technological advancements as critical strategies to effectively mitigate and combat the multifaceted security concerns.

Governor Alia of Benue State, who attended the meeting in solidarity with his fellow Northern Governors, expressed his support for the victims and commended the Forum for not only engaging in discussions but also actively providing assistance to affected communities. He emphasized the Northern Governors’ dedication to helping each other and utilizing technological innovations to address the complex challenges prevalent in the region.

The gathering signifies a milestone moment for the Northern Governors as they work collectively towards fostering unity and finding practical solutions to the challenges facing the region. It serves as a testament to their commitment to tackling insecurity, supporting affected communities, and harnessing technological advancements as essential tools in creating a safer and more prosperous Northern Nigeria.
