It was gathered by Hobnob News that there was uproar in the Senate on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio overruled the nomination of Dr Tony Nwoye, Labour, Anambra North for the position of Senate Minority Whip.
Nwoye had been presented by the PDP dominated minority caucus to replace Senator Darlington Nwokocha who had earlier been removed from the Senate by the court.
It was gathered by Hobnob News that the Minority Caucus led by Senator Adamu Aliero, PDP, Kebbi had penciled down Dr Nwoye as the choice of the Labour Party caucus to replace Nwokocha.
However, the nomination was turned down by Akpabio who rather opted for Senator Osita Ngwu, a PDP Senator from Enugu against the resolution/decision of Minority Caucus of the Senate.
The Protests by Labour Party senators over what they claimed was their slot was overruled. Ranking senators even in the PDP including Senator Aliero who sought to explain that the slot was meant for Labour went unheeded.
The decision of Senator Akpabio led to an outburst by Senator Nwoye, a former national president of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
Apparently, No reason was given by the Senate President over his decision, but Senate sources indicate that it may not be unconnected with insinuations over the leadership election that brought Akpabio as Senate President.
