Maryanne Trump Barry, the older sister of former President Donald J Trump, has died at the age of 86. According to the New York Times, Barry passed away on Monday morning at her home in New York City. The cause of her death is currently unknown.
Barry, the eldest daughter of Fred and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, had a successful career in law. After serving as an assistant US attorney in 1974, she was appointed to the US district court for New Jersey by Ronald Reagan in 1983. Barry retired from her position in 2019.
She had been married to John Barry, a trial and appellate lawyer, who predeceased her.
Despite their familial ties, Barry and her younger brother, Donald J Trump, had a strained relationship and often found themselves at odds with each other. Audio recordings released by Mary L Trump, Barry and Donald’s niece, revealed Barry’s critical views on her brother’s political style. During the 2016 election, she even referred to Donald as a “clown.”
The passing of Maryanne Trump Barry comes as Donald Trump, who is currently 77 years old, continues to be a major figure in American politics. Despite facing numerous criminal charges in four cases, he remains the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination.
