Yoruba Nation Leader, Sunday Igboho Released From Detention, Travels To Germany

Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, has been released from protective custody by Benin Republic.

His lawyer while confirming his release to TheCable said:

“Yes, he has been released. He was released yesterday. He is now in Germany,” Aliu said.

Probed on the condition of his release, he replied: “I can’t speak about it”.

Igboho was on July 2021, arrested together with his wife, Ropo, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and detained at the request of the Nigerian government.

He had earlier fled Nigeria after the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his residence in Ibadan, Oyo state on July 1.

The DSS had accused Igboho of stockpiling weapons, and subsequently declared him wanted.

After his arrest in Benin Republic, his wife, Ropo was later released by the Benenise authorities.

He was arraigned at the Court D’Apeal in Cotonou and was detained in a prison facility in the country, with arms smuggling, inciting violence and calling for a secession of the Yoruba from the Nigerian state among the charges preferred against him.
