Group offers scholarships to Anambra students

A non-governmental organisation, the Light Givers Foundation, has awarded scholarships to 10 indigent students in Anambra for their secondary school and university education.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Secretary of LGF, Dr Onyinye Okeke, said that the beneficiaries of the High Chief Stanley Obodoagwu-sponsored scholarships were students of Abbott Girls Secondary School, Ihiala, Anambra.

Okeke said that 45 indigent students took part in the examination, but 10 candidates came out on top and qualified for the gesture worth millions of naira.

The statement, quoted the Founder and Financier of LGF, Mr Ezeudo Gburugburu, as saying, “I am passionate about the future of these young children who are leaders of tomorrow and it is paramount to ensure that they get educated, most importantly supporting the indigents among them.

“This is also part of a series to mark the obsequies of my father, the late Eugene Obodoagwu, a business tycoon.”

A representative of the Anambra State Ministry of Education, who is also a member of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Nnewi Zone, Awka, Dr Chukwuka Eto, commended LGF for the support.

Councillor Afam Ononkwo, representing Ogburu Ward 5, Ihiala Local Government Council, appreciated Obodoagwu and the LGF for consistently coming to the aid of the less privileged in diverse ways in the community.

The one-day event had the Zonal Director of Education, Nnewi Zone, Mrs Umennadi Eziamaka, and the School Principal, Dr Sabina Chukwunedum, in attendance.
