The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union of Nigeria are meeting the representatives of the Federal Government at the Conference Hall of the office of the Chief of Staff, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting comes hours after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited announced a new pump price for petroleum products at its stations nationwide, including Premium Motor Spirit.
The organized labor is led by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo.
They gathered that former NLC President and immediate past governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, the Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar, the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Foldable Yemi-Esan, the Group Chief Executive Officer, of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari, are present.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not made public, it may be connected to the recent subsidy announcement by the President in his inaugural speech on May 29.
Tinubu’s announcement “Subsidy is gone” has skyrocketed the petroleum pump price and sparked fuel scarcity in some parts of the country.
Reacting to the development, the NLC, on Wednesday evening, kicked against the discontinuance of petroleum subsidies and the recent price hike.
