Fulfil campaign promises, group urges Tinubu

A socio-democratic group, Afenifere for Collective Transformation has urged the new President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to hit the ground running by tackling the nation’s challenges and fulfilling his electioneering promises.

The group in a statement jointly signed by its Director-General, Prince Tolu Ajayi and Publicity Secretary, Idowu Alabi said the president must prioritize the rebuilding of the country’s international image.

While stressing that the Nigerian passport needs to be dignified, the group advised the president to review the country’s international policies.

Tinubu was sworn in as President of Nigeria today (Monday) in Abuja, amid colourful events and a festive mood at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

The Oath of Office was administered by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola.

He succeeded the former President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who on Thursday, in Abuja, handed over the transition documents to him.

Tinubu, a former Senator and governor of Lagos State was declared the winner of the February 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election while Peter Obi of the Labour Party, came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes.

The group in a statement, however, urged the president to unite Nigeria by true reconciliatory moves to heal the wounds of the religious and ethnic crisis created during the election period.

The statement read partly, “Appointments should also reflect the true commitment of the new government in uniting Nigeria.

“Following the recent International Conference by the global representatives and leaders of the Afenifere for collective transformation, we congratulate Nigerians on the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Indeed, it’s a new dawn for Nigerians both at home and abroad.”

It added that, “Nigerians should not find it difficult to access education at home and abroad. The procedure involved in the payment of tuition is too cumbersome.

“Resource theft by foreigners should be a thing of the past. Our generation must benefit from the gifts God gave Nigeria.”
