No fewer than five people have lost their lives in a road accident along the Tombia-Amassoma Road in Bayelsa State.
The incident occurred on Friday and involved a black Toyota SUV with the number plate, RGM 38 HM, and a Mazda 323F with the number plate, NEM 456 PG.
Both vehicles had a head-on collision.
The deceased people were the driver of the Mazda car and four passengers.
The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the accident.
Butswat said, “Four passengers and the driver of the Mazda car died on the spot.
“A female passenger was rescued and hospitalised at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.
“The corpses of the victims were deposited in the same hospital for autopsies.
“Investigation is ongoing to arrest the driver of the SUV and to ascertain the cause of the fatal crash.”
