AN outbreak of Lassa fever has claimed the life of a medical doctor in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
A statement by the chairman, Nigerian Medical Association in the state, Dr. Anenga Ushakuma, disclosed that Dr John Iorwuese Kpamor until his death was a chief consultant family physician and team leader of the ART clinic at FMC Makurdi.
According to Anenga, Dr. Kpamor was sick and Lassa fever was suspected and his blood samples were taken for diagnosis, but before the results came, he died.
“However, his test result came positive for Lassa fever after we announced his death.
A couple of our members who attended to him are on drugs now, drugs that prevent the infection for those exposed.” he added.
