An actor and comedian, Whochey Nnadi, has said that his father’s death had a negative impact on his career.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Nnadi, who plays the role of Goodluck in the popular TV series, The Johnsons, said, “Sincerely, I have struggled with my career since 2021, when I lost my dad. It affected my work, especially in terms of the number of projects I work on. Usually, I partake in not less than five film projects every year, but since my dad died passed on, I have not been able to do more than three a year. However, I am better now.”
Recalling how he became a part of The Johnsons, the actor stated that he was connected to the lead actor on the show, Charles Inojie, through another actor, Okey Bakassi, whom he worked with as a personal assistant for about five years. He added, “To be honest, I owe my success to God and Charles Inojie.”
The actor also added that the cast members of the popular show were practically like a family. He said, “The truth is, The Johnsons has become a family for most of us. What people see on screen is an extension of our daily activities. You can imagine spending close to 10 hours in a day, and five days in a week with a particular set of people. The bond between us is so strong.”
Speaking on how his time working with Bakassi aided his understanding of the industry, Nnadi said, “I had met him when he worked as a Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment to a former Imo State Governor. I pleaded with him to get me gigs, and he told me that talent was not enough to thrive in showbiz. According to him, I had to learn how the industry worked. I basically understudied the business for close to five years under his tutelage. And, I am grateful for that time because it has helped my career a great deal.”
