Four civilians have been confirmed dead and several houses destroyed after bandits launched coordinated attacks on two communities and a hospital amid renewed communal clashes between Fulani and Kamuku groups in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that the attacks occurred on July 4 following escalating hostilities between members of the two communities.
According to Makama, troops of the 45 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kagara swiftly carried out a fighting patrol to Baka Cin Hatsi and nearby villages after receiving reports of the violence.
The security personnel confirmed that the attackers stormed Anguwan Gizo and Anguwan Karaya villages, where they killed four civilians and set several houses ablaze, forcing many residents to flee for safety.
The assailants also reportedly invaded Asmau Hospital, where displaced Fulani residents had taken refuge from the communal unrest, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the area.
Following the attacks, security forces intensified operations by dominating the affected communities to prevent further violence, reassure residents, and restore order.
To curb possible reprisal attacks, the Rafi Local Government authorities imposed a 12-hour curfew, effective from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Makama added that security agencies would maintain a strong presence across the affected communities while efforts continue to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the deadly attacks. If you’d like, I can also rewrite this in a more newspaper-style or breaking-news format.
