Governor Alia’s Youths, Media Aide Resigns Amid Growing Ties With SGF Akume

Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Special Assistant on Youths and Media Mobilization, Atu Terver Joseph, has resigned from his position in the Benue State Government.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the Benue State Government, Atu expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve in the administration and for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure.
“I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to serve under your administration and the confidence reposed in me.
“I am appreciative of the experience gained and I wish Your Excellency continued success in the service of Benue State,” he stated.
Although Atu did not disclose the reason for his resignation, political observers believe the move may be linked to his recent alignment with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
The development comes shortly after Atu publicly revealed a meeting with the SGF, describing the former Benue State governor as the “most powerful Benue man alive.”
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, Atu recounted paying what he described as a surprise June 12 visit to Akume.
“Today, I decided to pay a surprise June 12 visit to our dear father, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume.
“He is the most powerful Benue man alive with a good heart and it was an honour to have such a wonderful reception from him. Today, I understand why God has been elevating him to where he is today.
“May things always fall in great places for you, daddy SGF,” he wrote.
The resignation has further fueled speculation about shifting political loyalties within Benue State, especially against the backdrop of the reported strained relationship between Governor Alia and Senator Akume, his former political mentor and ally.
Nova News reports that a cold war has persisted between the two influential politicians, with recent political developments increasingly highlighting divisions within the state’s ruling camp.
As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Government had not issued an official statement regarding Atu’s resignation.
