A frontline aspirant for the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has officially withdrawn from the House of Representatives race ahead of the party’s primaries.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Orwough said the decision followed “deep reflection, extensive consultations, and heartfelt discussions” with the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, alongside family members, political leaders, elders, and close associates.
According to him, stepping down from the contest was difficult due to the overwhelming support he had received from constituents across Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency.
He appreciated supporters for their prayers, encouragement, sacrifices, and commitment throughout his campaign, noting that their confidence in his leadership ambition strengthened his resolve to serve the people.
Orwough, however, stated that as a loyal member of the APC who believes in unity, peace, and collective progress, he chose to sacrifice his ambition in the interest of party harmony and the future of the constituency.
“Leadership is not always about occupying a position; sometimes, it is about making sacrifices that will preserve harmony and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one people,” he said.
The former aspirant subsequently declared his total support for Hon. Christopher Ikper as the preferred candidate for the Makurdi/Guma House of Representatives seat and urged his supporters and political associates to rally behind him.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the administration of Governor Alia and the continued growth of the APC in Benue State.
Orwough maintained that his passion for the development of Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency remains strong, pledging to continue serving the people with dedication, humility, and sincerity in whatever capacity possible.
The statement was dated Saturday, May 16, 2026.
