Suspected members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province on Thursday evening launched an ആക്രമ on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area, forcing residents to flee for safety.
According to fleeing villagers who spoke to Vanguard, the insurgents stormed the community, shooting sporadically and setting residential buildings ablaze. Panic-stricken residents reportedly ran into nearby bushes as the attackers wreaked havoc.
The latest assault comes barely a month after a similar incident in the same community. Hobnob News recalls that on March 30, 2026, terrorists attacked Kautikari at about 6 p.m., killing a local hunters’ commander, Mallam Bumto, who had arrived from Lagos State just a day earlier.
During the March attack, the assailants also killed Johanna Peter, whose wedding was scheduled for March 31, 2026, at the community church, alongside several other residents. The incident led to widespread displacement, looting of food supplies, and rustling of livestock, forcing many residents to abandon their homes. The community had only recently begun resettling before the latest attack.
A security personnel from Kautikari, currently based in Maiduguri, confirmed the renewed нападение but said details remain unclear due to the ongoing chaos.
“Yes, our community of Kautikari is under Boko Haram attack. I just received the distress call at about 6:50 p.m. this Thursday,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to brief the press.
He added that the number of casualties could not yet be confirmed, as the attackers were still active and residents were scrambling for safety.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
