The Federal Government has directed security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute individuals allegedly involved in sexual assaults during a local festival in Ozoro, Delta State.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, issued the directive in a statement released on Friday in Abuja through the ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ahmed Danbazau

The government’s intervention follows the circulation of disturbing viral video footage early Friday morning. The clips captured multiple incidents of sexual assault during the Alue-Do Festival, a traditional event often referred to as a “Festival of Fertility,” held in the Ozoro Kingdom of Isoko North Local Government Area.

Expressing deep concern over the reports, the Minister condemned the harassment and violence meted out to women during the cultural activities.

“I am deeply concerned by the disturbing reports and viral footage alleging that women were subjected to sexual assault and harassment during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated.

While the Minister commended the Delta State Police Command for its swift initial response, she called for a transparent and expedited investigation to ensure no perpetrator escapes the law.

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs confirmed it is moving to collaborate with its Delta State counterpart to provide a comprehensive support system for those affected.

To ensure such incidents do not happen again, the Minister emphasized the need to engage with traditional rulers and community stakeholders to address harmful norms.

The ministry further urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing information that could lead to further arrests.
