Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Taiwo Oyedele as Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm tax expert Taiwo Oyedele as a minister in his administration.

Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Earlier on March 3, the president nominated Oyedele—who currently chairs the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms—as Minister of State for Finance.

If the Senate approves the nomination, Oyedele will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is expected to move to the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning as Minister of State. The reassignment would mark her third ministerial role since the Tinubu administration began.

In the letter, Tinubu explained that the nomination followed the provisions of Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution, which allows the president to appoint ministers subject to Senate confirmation.

He also expressed hope that the Senate would give the request swift consideration.

After the letter was read, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action, in line with Senate procedure.
