Soldiers’ Plight: Ngoshe Base Overrun by Boko Haram, 4 Beheaded
A shocking account from a surviving soldier reveals the harrowing experience of Nigerian troops stationed in Ngoshe, Borno State, as Boko Haram terrorists overran their base. The soldier, who spoke to Daily Trust, described how the group of only 36 soldiers, including the base commander, were left to face the insurgents after several others fled.
According to the soldier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) visited the base but instead of commending their bravery, shouted at them for not giving their best. The soldiers had requested Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and other equipment but were refused.
The terrorists, numbering over 10, surrounded the location and captured four soldiers, who were later beheaded. The soldier recounted watching in horror as the insurgents slaughtered the captives and set their operational vehicles and building on fire.
The base was eventually overrun, and the remaining soldiers fled into the bush, pursued by gunfire. An officer was shot in the stomach and had to be abandoned due to intense fire exchange.
The surviving soldier expressed frustration and exhaustion, stating they are now seeking a way to leave the area and head home. This incident highlights the challenges faced by Nigerian troops in the fight against Boko Haram.
