NNPP Cries Foul: ‘Legislative Rascality’ as Kano Assembly Moves to Impeach Deputy Governor Gwarzo

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has condemned the Kano State House of Assembly’s move to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, calling it “legislative rascality” aimed at undermining the people’s mandate. The party views the impeachment proceedings as a politically motivated attempt to remove Gwarzo, who refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Abba Yusuf.

The NNPP expressed disappointment, stating that the move is a “classic symptom of the atavistic and cannibalistic democracy” where laws are weaponized against opponents. The party reiterated its support for Gwarzo, urging him to remain calm amidst the “humongous provocation”.

The impeachment notice, signed by 38 lawmakers, alleges Gwarzo’s involvement in gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust, including diversion of funds meant for local government administrations and receiving kickbacks.

Gwarzo has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations. The NNPP has vowed to stand by him, warning that the people of Kano will hold accountable those involved in the impeachment process.
