The Edo State Government has postponed the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo Central Senatorial District due to rising security concerns in parts of the state.
Schools in the district were scheduled to reopen on Monday for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, but the government has shifted resumption to a later date, which will be announced in due course.
Speaking in Benin on Monday, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, said the decision was taken to address emerging issues affecting the safety and welfare of students.
According to him, the postponement is intended to resolve “exigencies” and ensure the protection and well-being of children across the district.
Iyamu urged parents, guardians, school proprietors, and administrators in Edo Central to take note of the development and comply, assuring them that a new resumption date would be communicated to the public soon.
