The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has refuted reports claiming that all government schools in the FCT were instructed to shut down by November 28, 2025, describing the information as entirely false.
The rumour stemmed from a memo allegedly issued by the Director of School Services, FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Alhassan, titled “Urgent Need for Early Closure of Schools Due to Security Concerns.” The memo claimed the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had directed senior secondary schools to close over purported security threats.
In an official statement obtained by Hobnob News, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, clarified that no such directive was issued at any level of the administration.
“The Federal Capital Territory Administration has debunked the report that all government schools were mandated to close by November 28, 2025. No such decision was taken,” the statement read.
Olayinka emphasized that the approved academic calendar remains unchanged while urging parents, students, and school authorities to disregard the misleading information.
He further announced disciplinary actions over the controversial memo. According to him, the FCT Minister ordered the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo. Additionally, the Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has been directed to take disciplinary action against Alhassan in line with civil service regulations.
The administration reassured residents of enhanced safety measures around schools and confirmed the minister’s directive for the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security operations across the territory.
The FCTA encouraged the public to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information and avoid sharing unverified reports.
